We have an unexpected opening for neurointerventional fellowship starting July2025. The Neurointerventional fellowship Program at UMass Chan Medical School provides trainees with an in depth 2-year comprehensive ACGME accredited training experience and offers exposure to all aspects of practice.  

We have 3 Neurointerventional radiologists and two dual trained neurosurgeons on staff. Fellows encounter all variety of complex neurovascular and spine interventions. Last year this center performed more than 200 stroke thrombectomies and 250 aneurysm interventions. Case mix includes AVMs, dural av fistulas, carotid revascularizations, complex head and neck vascular and tumor embolization and sclerotherapy. We have 3 state-of-the art neurointerventional Philips biplane machines. Overall UMass is one of the largest neurovascular centers in New England area. 

This is a research heavy fellowship as the center participates in various clinical studies. The close research partnership with New England Stroke Center for Research (NECStR), provides a unique opportunity for collaboration and participation in basic and translational research. The NECStR lab features a state-of-the art angiosurgical suite that is fully equipped for aseptic surgical and interventional procedures and imaging technology that mirrors the clinical angiosurgical suites. In addition, the 3T Philips Achieva MR Scanner that is located next to the suite in the Advanced MR Imaging Center provides additional multi-modal imaging acquisition capabilities. The Center also includes a chemistry and hemodynamic lab and small animal imaging capabilities. 

UMass Memorial Medical Center is a 781-bed tertiary care hospital and the clinical partner of UMass Chan Medical School. UMass Memorial is Worcester County’s only Level I Trauma Center, comprehensive stroke center and the referral center for central New England. The Department of Radiology at UMass Memorial performs over 1 million studies per year, across five hospitals and an outpatient imaging center.

Requirements: 

By the time they begin their fellowship at UMass Chan Medical School, applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited radiology/neurology or neurosurgery residency program, an AOA-approved residency program, a program with ACGME International (ACGME-I) Advanced Specialty Accreditation, or a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)-accredited or College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)-accredited residency program located in Canada. An exceptionally qualified international graduate who is trained in a non-ACGME radiology residency program is also considered for the fellowship. ?Acceptance is contingent on obtaining Massachusetts medical license by the start date of the Fellowship.
