Due to a recent program expansion, Stanford Department of Radiology is offering an additional Cardiothoracic Imaging Fellowship position starting July 1, 2025 to June 2026. The two other cardiothoracic imaging fellowship spots in this year are filled by internal Stanford radiology residents.
The cardiothoracic imaging fellowship is designed to be a well-balanced academic training program that provides exposure to basic and advanced clinical applications in cardiothoracic imaging including lung cancer screening, interstitial lung disease evaluation, and cardiac CT and MR imaging. Clinical training consists of rotations on the chest (32 weeks), cardiovascular (14 weeks), and elective (6 weeks) services. One day per week is set aside for academic activities. Fellows are strongly encouraged to actively participate in research, education, or quality improvement projects that are done under the supervision and tutelage of cardiothoracic faculty members. Ongoing clinical research interests of faculty section members include CT lung cancer screening, implementation of AI algorithms into radiology clinical workflow, and CT dose reduction techniques.
The fellow will function as part of a clinical team who is responsible for the performance and interpretation of in- and outpatient chest radiographs, CTs, MRIs, and cardiothoracic interventional procedures at a tertiary care academic medical center with state-of-art equipment and institutional strengths in oncology, transplantation, interstitial lung disease, and cardiovascular disease. Fellows will be provided opportunities to teach in the form of medical student and resident conferences as well as during bi-weekly “interesting” cardiothoracic and cardiovascular case conferences. Call responsibilities, done remotely, are focused on the performance and interpretation of CT coronary artery exams that are done on an emergent basis. Moonlighting opportunities, both internal and in the community, are available to interested individuals.
Applicants must be board certified or board eligible in radiology and qualify for medical licensure in California. Applicants should contact program administrator, Alyssa Martinez at amart10@stanford.edu.
