Georgetown University and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital seeking applicants for the position of Chair of Radiology of Georgetown University School of Medicine (GUSOM) and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (MGUH).
The position
The chair of radiology serves as both the academic chair of the department and the clinical chief of imaging services for the hospital. The chair oversees all undergraduate and graduate medical education in the department and all basic, translational, and clinical research performed by department members. The chair also serves as chief of the academic division and senior associate executive director of MedStar Medical Group Radiology (MMGR), the radiology professional group for MedStar Health.
The Department
The department of radiology at MGUH provides the full range of imaging services and includes radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, computed tomography, MRI, breast imaging, nuclear medicine and interventional radiology. It performs approximately 200,000 exams each year.
The department has 43 faculty members, 16 diagnostic radiology residents and 14 integrated and independent interventional radiology (IR) residents. It offers fellowships in body imaging, breast-body imaging and neuroradiology. It is the primary teaching site in radiology for Georgetown medical students, with third year rotations in interventional and diagnostic radiology and numerous 4th year medical student elective rotations.
In addition to clinical services and education, the department has an active portfolio of translational and clinical research, including a very active machine learning/artificial intelligence development program. It coordinates its research through Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) and MedStar Health Research Institute (MHRI). It supports the Pre-clinical Imaging Research Laboratory, which provides animal imaging services, including a 7T MR, advanced ultrasound imaging and a fluoroscopic interventional animal lab.

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital
MGUH is a 500-bed tertiary and quaternary care university medical center operated by MedStar Health. It is on the campus of Georgetown University directly adjacent to the medical school and the medical center research facilities. It has recently added a $600 million six-story clinical pavilion that includes all new operating rooms, ICUs, intermediate care beds and emergency room. A new inpatient radiology satellite department was included in the expansion, and this has greatly facilitated imaging service delivery throughout the hospital.
Georgetown is nationally and internationally known for its cancer care, transplant services, gastroenterology, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics and intensive care services. It is home to the Lombardi Cancer Center, the only NCI designated comprehensive cancer center in the region with a strong program in developmental therapeutics, cancer epidemiology and cancer interventions. The hospital serves as a key referral center for the MedStar Health system.
MedStar Health System and MMGR
MedStar Health is the largest provider of health care services in Maryland and the District of Columbia and the area’s largest employer. It has 9 acute care hospitals, one rehabilitation hospital and numerous ambulatory care sites, imaging centers, urgent care clinics and physician offices. It provides services in over 300 locations.
MMGR is the sole provider of imaging services for the health system and is divided into clinical and academic divisions, which work collaboratively to provide imaging services across the system, including nighttime services by an internal nighthawk group. It employs approximately 150 radiologists, and it completes approximately 1.4 million imaging exams per year. The academic division has primary responsibility for MGUH, but also MedStar Montgomery Medical Center and two outpatient imaging centers. It also provides support for subspecialty imaging services across the system as needed.

We are seeking candidates with a proven record of leadership at the department level, with a strong clinical and academic background. Applicants should be at the professor level and have at least 10 years of practice experience.
Candidates must have completed an ACGME diagnostic radiology or interventional radiology residency program, be American Board of Radiology certified in Diagnostic or Interventional Radiology and be eligible for licensure in DC, Virginia and Maryland.
