The Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) at the Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM) in St Louis invites applications from outstanding Ph.D., D.Sc. and/or M.D. candidates in the physical sciences, engineering, or medicine for tenure-track faculty positions at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. We are seeking talented investigators to initiate or lead highly innovative research programs in Biomedical Optics. Major research areas of interest include, but not limited to, catheter-based imaging, endoscopy, sensor development, and implantable devices. The selected investigators will be encourages to establish viable collaboration with interventional radiologists in MIR as well as faculty in the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis.
The selected candidates will be part of the Optical Radiology Laboratories (ORL), which is housed in the MIR. ORL consists of multiple principal investigators and over 60 students, postdoctoral fellows, staff, and clinical fellows that provide a collaborative environment for diverse research initiatives.
ORL investigators are pioneers in the development and clinical translation of molecular imaging probes, spectroscopy, imaging systems, new methods, and theranostic systems. Current areas of research include cancer imaging and treatment, optical neuroimaging, and imaging neuropathy, arthritis, inflammation, viral and bacterial imaging, imaging treatment response, and nanotechnology.

Eligible candidates will have Ph.D., D.Sc. and/or M.D.
For each position, rank and tenure status will be commensurate with experience. It is expected that the applicants will have a strong track record of publications and success in external funding through grants and contracts. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a multi-disciplinary, rigorous and extramurally funded research program interfacing with the MIR’s research labs, translational imaging facilities and WUSM.
