Carle Foundation Hospital is looking to hire a Director for its newly-formed Center for Clinical Imaging Research.
Several additional positions will be available for both senior and junior clinical researcher positions, and the Director will have a key role in future hires. Carle is making a multi-million dollar investment in its own research infrastructure, as well as having contributed ~$100 million into the Carle Illinois College of Medicine, a joint enterprise between Carle Foundation and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).
The focus of the Center will be on clinical applications of high field MRI, and will concentrate on areas closely aligned to one of Carle Foundation’s major research pillars, which are: neuroscience, oncology, heart and vascular diseases, and digestive health. There is also strong interest in the area of rural health. Carle Foundation Hospital, in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), have recently placed an order for a Siemens 7 Tesla Terra, to be installed by July 2020, which will be fully available for clinical use and clinical research. In addition there is a Siemens 3 Tesla Prisma scanner and three Siemens 1.5 Tesla Vida systems available for research. There is also significant research time available at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology’s Biomedical Imaging Center (only five minutes walk from Carle) which has two Siemens 3T Trio systems and supports a wide range of collaborative research in magnetic resonance imaging technology and applications across the UIUC campus. Interaction with existing MRI groups at the Beckman Institute is encouraged.
The new Director also has the potential to be appointed as a Professor (or appropriate academic level) in the Carle Illinois College of Medicine. Additional academic appointments will be possible in the relevant university department (e.g. Bioengineering, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Psychology, Electrical and Computer Engineering), as well as at the Beckman Institute. The Director will be the head of the Clinical Imaging Research Unit and will report directly to the Vice President of Research at Carle.
Previous experience and requirements.
Applicants for the position should have experience in running a multi-faculty research group and a demonstrated publication and external funding record related to MRI clinical methodology development. The Director is expected to establish an independent externally-funded research program, and to participate where appropriate in the teaching and mentoring program of the new engineering-based medical school. Responsibilities will involve translation of basic research into improved clinical practice, as well as supervision of students and medical residents.
