Description: University of Missouri, known as Mizzou, invites applications for the position of Radiation Safety Officer
This is a career opportunity for a radiation safety professional to lead the Radiation Safety Program at Missouri’s largest and most comprehensive university. Mizzou’s is one of only six public universities nationwide that can claim a medical school and hospital, veterinary medicine college and hospital and a law school on the same campus. Mizzou is also home to the internationally recognized University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR), a 10-megawatt facility. While MURR is not part of Mizzou’s NRC license, is does support wide-ranging teaching, research and development on Mizzou’s campus with the use of radioactive materials in life sciences, social sciences, materials sciences, engineering, and medical and veterinary uses.
The Radiation Safety Officer has oversight of the implementation and management of Mizzou’s Type A Broad Scope Medical Use License and leads the comprehensive Radiation Safety Program for radioactive materials and radiation-producing machines associated with approximately 200 research laboratories, and with five hospitals including nuclear medicine and radiation oncology services.
A Bachelor's degree in related/ relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and at least 7 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Masters degree in Health Physics or related science Doctorate or Doctor of Medicine, and American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) or equivalent certification preferred. Five years in the role of Radiation Safety Officer or Associate Radiation Safety Officer experience at a medical research institution or large medical research and joint hospital facility.
