The applicant will work in the Breast-Unit of the Candiolo Cancer Institute as a Radiologist. The unit includes mammography, tomosynthesis and ultrasound, vacuum assisted breast biopsy (VABB) and one day availability of a 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner.
The applicant will be provided with a start-up grant upon presentation and approval of his research plan. Research plan must focus on Oncologic Imaging. The time is allocated with 70% to clinical consultant and 30% to research duties.
Candiolo Cancer Institute is a private non-profit Institute founded and supported by the Fondazione Piemontese per la Ricerca sul Cancro (FPRC) and the Regione Piemonte and operated by the Fondazione del Piemonte per l’Oncologia. It is the only comprehensive cancer center in the Piedmont Region and is a recognized IRCCS (Istituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico) by the Italian Ministry of Health. The mission of the Institute is to make a significant contribution to fight cancer by understanding the basics and by providing optimal diagnostics and therapeutic services. The interaction between experimental and clinical expertise allows constant transfer of biological models into the clinics. A breast multidisciplinary tumor board is responsible for the management of all breast cancer cases. Over the last 15 years, Candiolo Cancer Institute has consolidated its reputation as one of the leading breast cancer centers in Piedmont, with approximately 400 primary breast cancer treated per year and constant scientific production. The Radiology unit has approximately 30 full-time positions including 8 staff specialists and 8 doctors in training. The Unit is fully dedicated to oncologic imaging and interventional oncology and, other than breast imaging and intervention, is equipped with the following equipment: CT, MRI, ultrasound, convention X ray, interventional radiology suite.
The applicant must be qualified as a consultant in Radiology with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of breast mammography, breast ultrasound, tomosynthesis, Breast MRI, breast interventional radiology. The applicant must have substantial skills in both clinical aspects and research within the field of Breast Imaging. However, a broad and substantial competence in all aspects of the different radiological procedures is desired, in particular body CT and body MRI.
Applicant should have good knowledge of English language and knowledge of the Italian language or availability to learn the language within 6 months from taking the job at the Candiolo Cancer Institute.
The consultant’s obligations are:
(1) To participate in the clinical duties of the unit on equal terms with the other consultants. Regarding clinical matters, economic issues and management the consultant refers to the chief consultant of the radiology unit.
(2) The candidate is encouraged to present a brief summary of the research project he/she would like to conduct at the Candiolo Cancer Centre. The proposed project should be preferably focused on the following topics related to breast cancer and imaging:
diagnosis and lesion characterization
prediction of treatment response
differential diagnosis (malignant vs indolent breast cancer)
definition of prognostic biomarkers
development of a clinical decision support system (CDSS)

Additional Salary Information: Three years full time contract renewable for 2 years. Salary of 70.000 Euro/year plus 20.000 Euro bonus/year and 150.000 Euro/year for 3 years for research activities.
