We are seeking to fill an unexpected ACGME accredited neuroradiology fellowship position to start July 1, 2019 at the University of Chicago Medicine (UCM).
The fellowship provides advanced training in neuroradiological imaging and procedures. The program offers integrated training experience in both a major academic medical center and North Shore University Health System’s Evanston Hospital, a leading community hospital fully affiliated with the University. This unique experience prepares fellows well for a career in both academic radiology and private practice. In addition, provided the current job market, many trainees are opting to complete extra fellowship training before seeking employment, especially as a recent JACR article noted that the second most frequent specific subspecialty was neuroradiology.
Fellows will be exposed to a full variety of neuroradiological cases, including a high volume of head and neck cases as well as a steady number of integrated pediatric neuroradiological exams. Advanced imaging and a balanced mix of neuroradiological procedures are integrated components of the training. With a total of 16 faculty members, all well versed in general neuroradiology, with individuals specialized in head and neck, advanced neuroimaging, pediatric neuroradiology, and interventional neuroradiology, the fellowship program provides a well-rounded subspecialty education. Comer Children’s Hospital is one of two pediatric hospitals in Chicago and is a Level 1 trauma center. An adult Level 1 trauma center opened in May 2018, which immediately increased the complexity and variety of adult trauma cases our fellows are exposed to. Two new off-site outpatient imaging centers opened in the prior year as well.
The Department of Radiology has maintained a strong culture in education. The year-round comprehensive teaching curriculum includes didactic lectures in neuroradiology organized into cohesive modules, neuropathology and physics, as well as multiple weekly case conferences. All fellows are provided a dedicated weekly academic day to pursue research, mentored by faculty with ongoing research projects, with intent to publish and present the results at major societal meetings. Optional elective time of up to 8 days may be arranged.
Applicants for the Neuroradiology Fellowship position must have completed an approved Radiology Residency Program and screened by the selection committee. All fellows must be eligible for Illinois Medical Licensure.
