The Department of Medical Imaging at The University of Arizona, Tucson has an ACGME-accredited Neuroradiology fellowship position available for the period of July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020. This fellowship is highly oriented towards education with many research opportunities and leads to eligibility for the Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Neuroradiology.
The Department of Medical Imaging is a leader in imaging technologies and applications. The department is equipped with the latest state of the art imaging and informatics systems and has an actively growing clinical and research program in the neurosciences. The department also supports a thriving residency training program with 36 positions.
Our hospital, Banner – University Medical Center (BUMC) is the only level 1 trauma center in the region and is directly associated with Diamond Children’s, providing regional support for a population of over 1 million people. There is a wide exposure to cases from each of the Neuroradiological subspecialties in both basic and advanced imaging. Advanced imaging includes MR perfusion using DSE and DCE techniques, MR angiography, MR spectroscopy, Diffusion Tensor Imaging, Functional MRI, CT perfusion, CT angiography, 3D CT imaging. All adult and pediatric Neuroradiologic imaging is performed by the Neuroradiology section. Spine procedures include biopsies, pain injections which include sacroiliac joint, nerve root, and epidural injections, blood patches, myelograms, and lumbar punctures. Head and neck procedures include CT and ultrasound guided biopsies. The fellows participate in diagnostic neuroangiography and endovascular neurosurgery procedures. There are numerous multidisciplinary conferences for fellow education.
In addition to regularly scheduled academic time, based on academic productivity, each fellow is also awarded one week of block academic time during each of the second, third and fourth quarters. Productive use of academic time results in journal publications, book chapters, and presentations at national meetings.
